| Hail the Queen |

Renée Loux is a green marvel. If you hit the glorious sugar-sand beaches of south Kihei, on Maui, you’re not far from the solar-powered beach house she shares with Shep Gordon, who’s a marvel of a different sort (long-time manager of Alice Cooper—who was first to hail Renée as the Queen of Green—friend to the Dalai Lama, et al.). Renée, too, travels in enviable company: She was the raw chef on actor (and fellow green hero) Woody Harrelson’s veggie-powered bus in the 2003 feature documentary Go Further.
You may have caught her more recently on NBC’s Today Show, where she visits often to talk about living a green and healthy lifestyle. She used to be chef/owner of an acclaimed raw restaurant on Maui’s north shore, and she is now a partner in Mala Wailea restaurant on Maui, which specializes in local, organic Hawaiian Regional cuisine with behind-the-scenes dedication to sustainable, eco-friendly practices. (Other partners include actor/director Clint Eastwood, Alice Cooper, basketball legend Don Nelson, husband Shep, and executive chef Mark Ellman.)
These days her main gigs are writing a green column for Women’s Health magazine and producing painstakingly researched, highly engaging books. Her latest is Easy Green Living (Rodale Press), which she calls “the ultimate, elemental guide to how to go green and stay sane.” We’re big fans of The Balanced Plate, also from Rodale, a cookbook that’s as much about a green world view as it is great recipes. Both are highly recommended. And be sure to check out her website, also jam-packed with great green info.
