Bucuti scored highest in sustainable management, social economics, cultural heritage and environmental practices.

To help travelers cut through confusing “green” claims, the Rainforest Alliance has launched an online database of sustainable tourism businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean. All hotels and tourism operators listed on SustainableTrip.org have either been verified by the Rainforest Alliance, certified by a third-party program or have been thoroughly vetted by a reputable organization.

Green Globe is adding Green Key Global certified properties onto its application for Apple mobile devices. The Green Globe App is the only mobile application for Apple iPads, iPhones and iPods that allows travelers to instantly search for sustainable resorts, hotels, conference centers, attractions, tour experiences and wedding options. The Green Globe App delivers photos and descriptions of Green Globe and Green Key certified businesses around the world, with direct links to booking, views in Google Earth and YouTube videos. The Green Globe App can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store.

It took three years, but Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., has earned Green Seal certification at the Bronze level. The hotel is the only Green Seal-certified hotel in the popular desert destination of Coachella Valley, which includes nearby Palm Springs.
